“It wasn’t just about downloading an app –
it was about showing how to do it.” –

From Frustration to Confidence — One Digital Breakthrough at a Time
A Buzz of Connection at Queen Elizabeth Hospital
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham was alive with energy during our latest Digital Health Day. Among the crowd of patients, families, and staff, our Smartlyte team and NHS volunteers created a small but powerful space where people could get hands-on help using the NHS App.
It wasn’t long before Josefeen, one of our volunteers, met an elderly couple passing by. The woman paused, curious but hesitant, admitting she’d tried to download the app before – and failed. “I spent hours on it and couldn’t get it to work,” she sighed.
Helping People Step by Step
That moment turned into one of the highlights of the day. Josefeen gently encouraged the woman to give it another go, explaining that tech troubles happen to everyone. Together, they retried the setup: uploading her photo ID, completing the face scan, and navigating the verification process.
When her hands shook, Josefeen held the phone steady. When her confidence wavered, Josefeen reminded her that she could do it. And this time, she did.
Skills, Confidence, and a Smile
When the green tick finally appeared, the woman’s face lit up. But the success was bigger than just logging in — she’d learned new digital skills:
● Uploading a photo from her phone
● Understanding how Face ID works
● Navigating app permissions and verification
Most importantly, she walked away feeling confident again. “She thought she wasn’t very
good at these things,” Josefeen said, “but she left knowing she absolutely was.”
A Partnership That’s Making a Difference
These are the moments that define our Digital Health Days — real stories of learning, patience, and empowerment. Together with Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the NHS, Smartlyte is helping people build the confidence and digital skills they need to manage their health online.
