Numeracy skills are essential in our daily lives, from managing finances to understanding data and statistics. However, not everyone feels confident in their ability to work with numbers. If you’re struggling with numeracy, it’s important to remember that you don’t have to go it alone. Seeking support from others can make a big difference in your learning journey.
One way to seek support is to turn to friends or family members who are skilled in numeracy. Peer support can provide encouragement and guidance, and may be able to help explain concepts in a way that you find easier to understand. Don’t be afraid to ask for help – many people are happy to share their knowledge and expertise.
Another option is to find a tutor or join a numeracy class or workshop. All of which are available through our Multiply programme. These structured environments can be very helpful for building your skills in a supportive setting. A tutor can provide one-on-one guidance tailored to your specific needs, while a class or workshop can offer a more social learning experience. Being in a group of people who are all working on the same skills can provide a sense of camaraderie and support, and may help you feel more motivated to keep learning.
If you prefer to learn on your own, you can also seek support from online communities. There are many resources available online for numeracy learners, including forums, blogs, and websites. These can be a great way to connect with others who are working on similar skills, share tips and strategies, and find support when you need it. Some online communities even
offer courses or tutorials specifically designed for numeracy learners. If you are looking for a way to enhance your skills and learn from experienced professionals, then this too is possible through our Multiply programme. Wolverhampton University offers one-to-one mentoring sessions via Zoom or Teams with their Numeracy Champions. These sessions are flexible and
can be scheduled to accommodate your work pattern.
No matter what approach you choose, the key is to remember that seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness. Everyone has areas where they need to improve, and there’s no shame in asking for help. By working with others, whether in person or online, you can build your numeracy skills and gain the confidence you need to succeed in all areas of your life.
